Radio Bahrain Company has announced the appointment of Ala Ghawas as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective February 5.
Ghawas brings wide-ranging experience across the telecommunications, media and creative industries, having most recently served in a senior leadership position at stc Bahrain. In addition to his corporate background, he is also an independent artist and music entrepreneur with an extensive catalogue of original work and a history of building engaged communities around music, arts and culture.
His appointment comes as Radio Bahrain Company continues to refine its long-term strategy, expand its digital footprint, and enhance both its commercial operations and content offering. The company is positioning itself for its next phase of growth amid evolving audience habits and a rapidly changing media landscape.
Khaled Mattar, Chairman of the Board at Radio Bahrain Company, said the Board is confident that Ghawas’s leadership and understanding of both business and media will help further strengthen Radio Bahrain’s role as a progressive and future-focused media organisation. He added that the appointment underscores the company’s commitment to developing local talent and supporting sustainable growth within Mumtalakat’s portfolio.

Radio Bahrain Company operates 96.5 Radio Bahrain, the Kingdom’s major English-language radio station, which has served listeners for more than four decades and is approaching its 50th anniversary. The company also expressed its appreciation to former Chief Executive Officer Omar Shaheen for his leadership and contributions, crediting him with helping strengthen the organisation and position it for future growth.
In his new role, Ghawas will be responsible for setting the company’s strategic and operational direction, with a focus on content quality, digital transformation, and the development of partnerships in Bahrain and the wider region.
