Sources in the industry informed that a senior executive flew from San Fransisco earlier today and broke the news to all India employees.
VOD streaming service Viu has decided to discontinue its India operations, two years after its launch. The decision was announced at the company’s Mumbai office today.
A senior producer who made shows for the platform is reported to have broken the news to employees earlier today, according to a news website.
Owned by Hong Kong-headquartered media group PCCW, Viu launched its India operations in 2016. So far in India, it commissioned Kaushiki, Memories, Love Lust and Confusion, Spotlight, and multiple seasons of the chat show What the Duck among others.
Viu follows a ‘freemium’ model, allowing users to access some content for free, while exclusive content can be viewed after subscribing to a plan.
We are awaiting comment from Viu.
