The UAE Philharmonic Orchestra (UAEPO) has been a long time user of Avid products. Philipp Maier who is the founder, artistic director and the resident conductor of the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra has been using Sibelius since six years and has scored orchestral arrangements for many projects including cross-over orchestral projects such as “Rock meets Classic”, Open Your Eyes – a symphonic rock spectacular and many others.
Originally called Dubai Philharmonic Orchestra DPO, the UAEPO consists of musicians resident in the UAE and performs regularly at private events, public concerts and corporate functions. The UAE Philharmonic Orchestra is the only full orchestra in the UAE and represents a major step towards orchestral culture and musical education within the UAE. After launching the latest generation of the music notation software, Avid Sibelius 7, Philipp Maier was very keen on giving it a closer look. In Sibelius 7 there is a definite improvement for usage with regards to beginners in score writing. All possibilities of the software are easier accessible and quicker to find. There is no need to learn keyboard shortcuts anymore. However as an experienced user I still have to find my way around the new design. I particularly use the PDF export feature a lot and am very happy with the fact that the produced file size is not too big. So parts can be uploaded or emailed very quickly. says Philipp Maier.
Sibelius 7 is designed by musicians for musicians and therefore effectively meets the demands of composers, arrangers, and publishers, as well as the demands of beginners and students. Users can collaborate more easily thanks to full MusicXML interchange support and other sharing options. And view beautiful, print-quality scores with advanced typography and graphics support. With the option to take your scores on the go with the Avid Scorch app for iPad, Sibelius 7 is, the manufacturers claim, the fastest, smartest, easiest way to write music.
Philipp has also used the professional sound library that only Sibelius 7 offers. The sound library includes more than 38 GB of professional content, including a specially recorded symphony orchestra, rock and pop instruments, and much more. Philipp says The new Sibelius 7 sound library is excellent and with detailed scoring it is now possible to produce extremely high quality tracks directly from within Sibelius, basically without the need for additional audio software. Phillip has sporadically used Pro Tools when editing his musical pieces and also used Avid Scorch to keep himself up-to-date for music distribution and collaborative projects.
Phillip also holds the position of a resident musicologist at the National University of UAE in Al Ain. As he is continuously preparing and rehearsing concerts for the UAE Philharmonic Orchestra, he is also in the middle of building up a music department at the National University of UAE in Al Ain.
