Aby Media, a newly established creative production company founded by industry veteran Bernard Azria and executive producer Kimberley Azria, has entered into a partnership with Globo, Latin America’s communications company. This collaboration will allow Aby Media to produce and distribute some of Globo’s most popular scripted formats across Africa, according to a report by Variety.
This partnership marks a significant step in the localisation of global narratives, providing new opportunities for African creatives and broadcasters.
Bernard Azria, Co-Founder of Aby Media highlighted the nearly three decades of distributing Globo content in Africa and described the agreement as a landmark achievement in bringing high-quality, engaging content to African audiences.
Kimberley Azria emphasised the importance of creativity and adaptation in the media industry and stated that the partnership with Globo underscores their commitment to producing content that resonates with local viewers while maintaining top-tier production standards.
Fabio Mauro, responsible for Content Distribution and Partnerships at Globo, noted that this agreement is key to Globo’s strategy of expanding its format sales, as exemplified by the adaptation of Brazil Avenue in Turkey. He highlighted the universal appeal of Globo’s productions and the potential to merge Brazilian storytelling with local African production.
Angela Colla, Head of International Business and Coproductions at Globo, highlighted that adapting international scripted formats is a strategic move in today’s complex media landscape, helping to meet the growing demand for new, captivating shows while managing risks and optimizing resources.
Aby Media will represent Globo in Africa, adapting popular titles such as Pantanal, Total Dreamer, Shades of Sin, and The Other Side of Paradise for local audiences. Both Aby Media and Globo will be present at MIP Africa in Cape Town from September 2 to 4, 2024, where they will showcase these exciting formats.
