Metis Partners, a commercial intellectual property (IP) consulting firm, has been asked to conduct a worldwide campaign to market and sell the IP assets of Africa Channel Ltd, a UK-based African-themed entertainment television network.
In addition to providing attractive content to audiences with interest in Africa-related topics in the UK and across Europe, Africa Channel also targets the African diaspora across the world.
Nat Baldwin of Metis Partners, who is co-ordinating the marketing drive, said: “The company has benefited from major media exposure and has produced many high-quality African arts programmes as well as Africa-relevant films and television shows. With a vast and receptive audience, it is a very attractive proposition.
“The sale of the IP assets of this one-of-a-kind entertainment network will attract enormous interest. This is a remarkable opportunity for a market player looking to add a new and exciting brand to its portfolio or to expand its offering both geographically outside the UK and in terms of content.”
The sale has been instructed by Michael Chamberlain of Chamberlain & Co, the Administrator of the Africa Channel. It is likely to be of particular interest to broadcasting companies, film and TV content distributors, and video streaming and media distribution companies.
The Africa Channel provides content to audiences in the UK, across Europe, Asia and the Middle East with the aim of offering fresh perspectives on the continent, its people and cultures. It has developed an especially strong following in the UK, where it was originally focused.
The channel has partnered with prestigious brands, including Virgin Media, Fairtrade, the Royal African Society, the Economist, the London Business School, the Tate and the South Bank Centre.
As well as the brand opportunities, the IP assets for sale include a registered trademark, website and domain names, programming rights, radio jingle and organisational knowledge.
