A new report released by the Arab Advisors Group indicates a strong trend towards high definition TV channels in the Arab world. The report titled HDTV in the Arab World overviews the high definition TV channels landscape in the Arab world covering the four satellite providers namely: Arabsat, Nilesat, Yahlive, and Noorsat. It also states the number of HD channels broadcast on each satellite and a comparison between the satellites.
The number of HD channels constituted around 11% of the total number of satellite channels aired on the four main satellites covering the region.
Noor Asmar, Arab Advisors’ Research Analyst wrote in the report: TV has not only improved in terms of colours, images, video and audio quality, and reception, but also became a more interactive experience with the high definition TV technology, where the number of HD TV channels have grown by 30% from April 2013.
The number of HD channels covered by the four main satellites was 87 channels in 2012, 103 channels by April 2013, and it increased by 31 channels to reach 134 HD channels by February 2014.
