Leaders of Arab space agencies and organisations will discuss the state of space sector at the second edition of the Global Space Congress in Abu Dhabi.
The Global Space Congress 2019, hosted by the UAE Space Agency, will bring together the leaders of Arab space agencies and organisations to discuss the status of space within the region and its growing contribution to sustainable development.
The Congress, taking place at St Regis Saadiyat Island Resort between 19 ? 21 March 2019, is the largest gathering of space sector leaders in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The event brings together space agency leaders, aerospace executives, government representatives, and leading scientists and academics to discuss challenges, policies, strategies, and the latest technologies in the space sector.
Speaking about the congregation, HE Dr Eng Mohammed Nasser Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, said: ?The space industry is one of the key drivers of human development and well-being, as a result of the industry?s numerous innovations which enhance our quality of life and contribute to social and economic development around the world.
?Through organising meetings and special sessions on the sidelines of the Global Space Congress for Arab space leaders we hope to leverage the industry?s capabilities to contribute to sustainable development across the region and inspire Arab youth to study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,? added HE Dr Eng Al Ahbabi.
The UAE Space Agency is leading regional efforts to enhance cooperation between Arab space entities and highlight the Arab World?s heritage and achievements in space and astronomy. The UAE Space Agency is also working to bring together regional space players to launch collaborative projects and initiatives that promote coordination between Arab countries and contribute to social and economic prosperity.
The first edition of the Global Space Congress was hosted by the UAE Space Agency in 2017 and marked the commencement of the Agency?s efforts to bring together leaders of Arab space agencies and organisations. During meetings on the sidelines of the Congress, regional leaders came together to discuss ongoing space projects and examine differing national capabilities.
These efforts continued into 2018 when, on the sidelines of the Global Aerospace Summit, the UAE Space Agency hosted special sessions for the leaders of Arab space agencies. During these sessions, attendees discussed the status of the space sector within the region including the availability of infrastructure and human resources and explored opportunities for future cooperation and collaboration through the development of joint projects and initiatives.
