Despite an unusually cold Amsterdam, visitor figures are slated to reach or even exceed 40,000 at Integrated Systems Europe 2012, when the show closes at 1600 hours on February 2, 2012. The talk of ‘providing complete solutions’ dominated the show as more corporates and specifiers from vertical markets attended what Mike Blackman, MD of ISE, calls a solutions show.
Providing the ‘wow’ factor was a 3D mapping wall making use of Christie’s J Series projectors and reportedly the largest MicroTiles installation at any trade show to date. Among the many ‘complete solutions’ on offer was NEC’S Vukunet service that includes a digital out-of-home (DOOH) ad distribution platform aimed at getting systems integrators more involved in capturing some of the ad revenue in network deployments that involve paid advertising.
Streamlining the world of AV and helping the move towards convergence of AV and IT, was the initiative from HDBastT providing a level of interoperability across products and brands and providing routing, power and control options that make a complex multiroom AV system more accessible. From screens that defied any conventional notion of size and shape, to touch screens and smart boards that displayed high levels of interactivity, manufacturers and software providers are actively addressing vertical markets ranging from schools and hospitals to airports and corporate meeting rooms.
Installation projects could soon be rated for environmental impact as part of the new Sustainability Technology Environment Program (STEP) launched by InfoComm International (one of the two partners behind ISE) and other industry bodies.
Weve created a foundation to advance sustainability efforts in the industry, to help people use materials efficiently, without creating a lot of waste, and to reduce energy consumption, explained Randal Lemke, InfoComm CEO and chair of the STEP Foundation.
InfoComm has already started 10 pilot projects, mainly in the US, and set up a website to explain the rating system (www.thestepfoundation.org), which will give examples of what can be done. To encourage the industry to take green matters more seriously, InfoComm already gives a sustainability award.
