The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the governing body behind the annual Golden Globe Awards has presented the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), with a plaque from the association at this years landmark 10th edition.
The prestigious plaque was presented to DIFF Chairman Abdulhamid Juma on behalf of the association by HFPA board members Lisa Lu, Aida OReilly and Film Critic Mohammed Rouda on the red carpet during the decennial edition in recognition of its status as a renowned international Festival.
DIFFS 2013 edition featured over 100 films from the Arab world and has been acknowledged for attracting a wealth of international press and industry professionals. This is the first time that such an award has been presented to an Arab Festival.
Abdulhamid Juma, DIFF Chairman said: We are honoured to have received this award from the HFPA, whose work in the entertainment world and beyond we so greatly admire. This is further recognition of the exponential progress DIFF has made over the past 10 years. It solidifies our status as an established festival on the international circuit, highly regarded for both showcasing the industrys best and launching emerging talent.
Known worldwide for its Golden Globe Awards ceremony held every January and its contributions to charity, HFPA members attend film festivals around the world to keep up to date with film production, select candidates for the Golden Globes and promote knowledge of the HFPA.
