The Doha Film Institute has announced that applications are now open for its Producers Lab, a specialised workshop aimed at filmmakers, producers, investors, financiers directors, and those interested in film production. The programme will select eight to ten participants to take part in the workshop.
The Producers Lab offers an opportunity for local and MENA-based producers to enhance their skills under the guidance of industry experts. With a maximum of 8-10 projects, the workshop aims to strengthen co-productions in the MENA region, foster networking opportunities, and improve the quality of film projects in the area.
This intensive online programme will focus on the creative, artistic and strategic aspects of producing feature-length documentaries and fiction films. Participants will engage in training exercises, group tutorials, one-on-one meetings, and masterclasses led by industry professionals. They will gain a deep understanding of a producer’s role and receive insights into film marketing, distribution strategies and international markets.
The programme will also include case studies that cover script development, executive production, finance and budgeting, post-production workflow, marketing, pitching and distribution. Participants will receive technical documents and templates, such as budget plans, financing strategies and pitch examples, to help refine their projects.
Candidates must have a feature-length project in development, with a director or screenwriter attached to the project. The director or screenwriter may participate in certain aspects of the programme.
Preference will be given to candidates who have previously produced at least one short or feature-length narrative or documentary film.
Priority will be given to applicants from Qatar and the MENA region, including the diaspora, as well as DFI grantees from any region. Applications from emerging countries and regions are also encouraged.
The application must include a brief synopsis of the project (up to one page), a film treatment, the producer’s résumé and short biography, and similar documents for the director and screenwriter (if available). If applicable, include the project script, detailed information on development needs, a letter explaining your interest in the workshop, and a scanned copy of a valid ID or passport.
The workshop will take place from October 22 – 30, 2024.
