Warner Bros. Pictures has partnered with Samsung in the UAE and KSA to uncover the region’s biggest horror fan.
A total of 72 moviegoers were invited to special screenings of New Line Cinema’s The Nun II in both the UAE and KSA. Armed with Samsung Galaxy watches, these participants embarked on a journey through the latest installment of The Conjuring Universe, with their heart rates meticulously measured during every fright and thrill.
As the 110-minute cinematic nightmare of The Nun II unfolded, the Samsung Watches recorded a 60% surge in heart rates, soaring from an average of 73 bpm to 117 bpm. To ensure precision in tracking these moments, all screening attendees were equipped with the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic. These watches feature a novel Personalised Heart Rate Zone that assesses individual physical capabilities, and new designs that provide better viewing, even in a dimly lit cinema!
The most heart-pounding sequence of the night resulted in the highest recorded heart rate, averaging 149 bpm. Participants described the appearance of Valak The Demon Nun as “haunting” and “nightmare fuel.”
The ‘bravest’ participants were those who maintained the lowest heart rates. In the UAE, the title went to Ahmad Jaber, a 28-year-old male, while in KSA, it was awarded to Ossama Essam, a 25-year-old male, who held the lowest heart rate across both groups, at 52 bpm and 81 bpm, respectively. Titled the ‘Biggest Horror Fan,’ Ahmad Jaber exclaimed: “The Nun II movie was amazing, I love The Conjuring universe and the jump scares! But I was able to control myself and stay calm, I really wanted to win the the new Samsung Galaxy Watch.”
Horror thriller The Nun II marks the next chapter in the saga of The Nun, the highest-grossing entry in the juggernaut $2bn The Conjuring Universe, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.
The film is set in 1956 France, where a priest is murdered… and an evil is spreading.
In the sequel, Sister Irene, portrayed once again by Taissa Farmiga, confronts Valak, the demon nun. The cast also includes Jonas Bloquet as Maurice, Storm Reid as Sister Debra, Anna Popplewell as Kate, and Bonnie Aarons, surrounded by a diverse ensemble of international talent.
Directed by Michael Chaves and featuring a screenplay by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing and Akela Cooper, The Nun II promises to deliver yet another spine-tingling addition to The Conjuring Universe.
