'Camel Ques' is the second high-profile project from Saudi Arabia to feature camels in a starring role.
Netflix has released Camel Quest, a Saudi unscripted docu-series offering viewers an inside look into the significant role camels play in Saudi culture.
The show chronicles the adventures of childhood friends Safwan Modir and Omar Almaeena, collectively known as “SAFFwOMZZ,” as they journey into the world of camels with aspirations of reaching the Crown Prince Camel Festival.
Ditching their careers in hospitality and startup investments, the duo immerses themselves in the realm of camels, with each episode celebrating the indispensable role of these animals in the Kingdom’s cultural heritage.
Described by Netflix as a “blend of humour, friendship, and cultural exploration,” the six-episode series aligns with the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s proclamation of 2024 as the “Year of the Camel.” This initiative showcases the enduring significance of camels through nationwide events, exhibitions, educational programs, and activities.
In a released statement, Safwan Modir expressed optimism about the Saudi cinema sector and the global appeal of Saudi camels. “Camel Quest revolves around our connection with these cherished animals. We’ve infused humour, the values of friendship, and the stunning landscapes of Saudi Arabia into this docu-series,” Modir stated.
He further emphasised the captivating storytelling featured in Camel Quest, promising to captivate viewers with spontaneous dialogues and tales about camels while traversing the most breathtaking sites in Saudi Arabia.
The debut of Camel Quest marks the second major project from Saudi Arabia where camels take centre stage. Hajjan, a film directed by award-winning Egyptian filmmaker Abu Bakr Shawky, also premiered just last month.
