Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has announced that the country requires 30 million set-top boxes to complete the digital switch over (DSO) process.
The transition will involve a large scale investment in deploying infrastructure for the switch over, stated Mallam Ishaq Modibo Kawu, Director General of NBC. He said that the country has already acquired 850,000 STBs, at the price of $26m to start the DSO process.
Kawu pointed out that 30 local, national and regional channels were being switched to digital in Abuja and the technical part of the process were carried out over all the geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
According to Kawu, DSO in West Africa is being handled by Nigerian experts in line with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to complete the switch over by the end of this year.
