Big-budget Hollywood film Noah, starring Russell Crowe will not be screened in the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar, owing to concerns that it will hurt the sentiments of various religious communities here, according to a report from The Associated Press.
Director of media content at the National Media Centre in the United Arab Emirates, Juma Al-Leem, is reported to have told AP that the movie will not be screened at local theatres because the film depicts the life of a prophet.
Paramount Pictures confirmed to AP that censors in the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain will not release the film because “it contradicts the teachings of Islam.”
“There are scenes that contradict Islam and the Bible, so we decided not to show it. It is important to respect these religions and not show the film, he said.
