The rebranding aligns with the goals of the National Broadband Plan (NBP) 20202025, which aims for 70% broadband penetration nationwide by 2025.
MTN Nigeria has unveiled its rebranded fibre broadband service, now called FibreX, marking a major step in advancing next-generation internet solutions across the country.
Previously known as MTN Fibre Broadband, FibreX represents the company’s commitment to providing ultra-fast, reliable and accessible internet services in alignment with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) for 20202025. The NBP aims to achieve 70% broadband penetration by 2025, ensuring minimum speeds of 25 Mbps in urban areas and 10 Mbps in rural regions.
Egerton Idehen, Chief Broadband Officer at MTN Nigeria, said: “The launch of FibreX reiterates our dedication to supporting Nigerias digital transformation journey. By enhancing our infrastructure and services, we aim to bridge the digital divide and foster inclusive growth.”
FibreX is positioned to play a key role in the Federal Governments plan to expand the nations fibre-optic network by an additional 90,000 km, increasing fibre capacity from 35,000 km to 125,000 km.
While maintaining the FTTH (fibre to the home) infrastructure, the rebrand to FibreX introduces a more modern, relatable and customer-friendly identity, aimed at leading the conversation on what premium internet should feel like. The new name is also designed to educate and excite consumers in areas with potential access to FTTH services, highlighting the benefits of high-speed internet connectivity.
