Nokia and du have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the exploration and research of 6G technology concepts. The agreement, signed by Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia, and Hasan AlShemeili, Head of Infra Technology Planning at du, aims to support the UAEs national digital transformation goals.
As part of this partnership, both companies will form dedicated teams to investigate 6G use cases, applications and network advancements. Their joint efforts will include field trials, proof-of-concept demonstrations and research into key technological enablers of 6G. The collaboration seeks to develop technical frameworks and guidelines to shape the standards and protocols necessary for the evolution of 6G networks.
The research will focus on several critical areas to advance 6G technology. One key area is exploring 6G spectrum and ultra-high-speed connectivity options to ensure faster and more reliable networks. Another focus is the development of AI-driven network architectures and Network-as-a-Sensor technology, which will enable more intelligent and responsive connectivity solutions.
Additionally, the collaboration will emphasise enhancing security, privacy and sustainable network design to create safer and more eco-friendly communication systems. Advancing digital twin environments and human-machine interfaces will also be a priority, allowing for more immersive and efficient interactions between humans and digital systems. Lastly, the research will investigate multi-sensory applications tailored to the UAE market, ensuring that future 6G innovations align with the regions technological and commercial needs.
The initiative will be conducted in phases, with regular assessments to ensure progress and align with key technical, regulatory and commercial objectives.
