Prior to this appointment, he was responsible for business development for the African continent.
Thales has named Yan Levy as the General Manager of Thales in Morocco. In his new role, Levy will oversee the development of the group’s activities in the country, with a particular focus on cybersecurity, an area where Morocco excels as a centre of excellence.
With 33 years of experience within the Thales group, Levy brings a wealth of expertise to his new position. Previously, he served as the head of business development for the African continent and led initiatives in public security and digital identity markets. Levy began his career in air defence and tactical radio communication before transitioning to major security projects. Armed with a Master’s degree in Physics-Chemistry and an MBA in Computer Science, he has also been an ambassador for Thales Solidarity since 2015.
“I am honoured to lead Thales’ activities in Morocco, supporting the Group’s localization strategy and aligning with the Kingdom’s vision,” said Yan Levy. “Thales will continue to invest in research and support local talent, forging strong partnerships with Moroccan universities to prepare them for global careers. Our aim is to solidify Thales as a key contributor to the Moroccan ecosystem and expand our outreach to other African countries, starting from Morocco.”
Thales, present in Morocco for over 40 years, boasts a workforce of more than 135 professionals in the Kingdom, with its headquarters based in Rabat. In 2022, the company inaugurated a cybersecurity operational centre in Morocco, the sixth within its international network, providing effective cybersecurity supervision for Moroccan and African administrations and businesses.
Additionally, Thales signed an agreement with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform in 2022 to recruit 150 professionals by 2027, furthering its cybersecurity endeavours in the Kingdom. Notably, Thales pioneered the first national biometric identity card in Morocco, based on contactless smart card technology, in the realm of digital identity.
As a leading provider of avionics and onboard electronics for Boeing and Airbus, Thales serves as a vital partner for the national airline, Royal Air Maroc. Thales in-flight entertainment systems adorn Royal Air Maroc’s Boeing 737 and 787 fleets, cementing the Group’s position as an indispensable ally in Morocco’s aviation landscape.
