TGC GE has acquired two shows from Different Productions: 'The Mall' and 'The Star', Saudi Arabia's first-ever singing competition.
Los Angeles-based TGC Global Entertainment (TGC GE), led by formats expert Phil Gurin, has signed key representation deals with Dubai-based Different Productions and Colombia’s Miracol Media. These agreements will further extend TGC GE’s international formats and factual entertainment network across the MENA region, Mexico and Latin America.
Under the terms of the agreements, TGC will sell titles from both prodcos internationally, including Miracol’s reality football competition Soccer Dreams. TGC has also added two shows from Different Productions (Dubai Bling) to its slate.
Gurin launched TGC in January of 2023 to leverage his relationships with key English- and Spanish-speaking territories, Europe, MENA and Asia and create opportunities for third-party independent producers looking to find a global audience for their IP.
The Star, Saudi Arabia’s first-ever singing competition, involves contestants auditioning to open a door that will either lead them to the judges or eliminate them. Blind duet battles determine the final 12 participants, with the last four battling it out for a chance to be crowned “The Star.”
The Mall pits 14 contestants into two teams, where they must live inside a fully operational shopping mall throughout the production. They face various challenges without access to money, phones or social media, with the winner taking home a cash prize.
Through its partnership with Miracol Media, TGC GE has secured the rights to distribute Soccer Dreams, a sports talent-search format originally produced as a 10-part series for RCN Colombia. The show follows a football legend as he scouts and mentors amateur players with the potential to reach the professional level.
In a statement, Phil Gurin, CEO of TGC GE, said: “It’s not just TGC GE that benefits from this pool of local and regional knowledge, experience and contacts. There’s also huge potential for the cross-pollination of ideas and business within the TGC GE family. In many ways, our international network is a microcosm of the global formats industry, which is to ensure that world-class entertainment from the world’s best creatives continues to be made, sold and enjoyed by audiences around the world.”
