Aside from Turkish platforms, Netflix and Prime Video lead as the top two platforms offering the most Turkish content across all regions.
In recent years, Turkish productions have steadily expanded beyond their borders, making a significant impact on screens worldwide, according to a report by BB Media, which has conducted an analysis of how Turkish content is being consumed globally, revealing key insights about the rising demand for these captivating stories.
How accessible is Turkish content around the world? Turkish titles are most accessible in the EMEA region, with Germany leading the way with 711 available titles. The United States follows closely, with 564 Turkish productions accessible, making the UCAN region the second-largest market for Turkish content.
Among Turkish streaming platforms, Puhutv boasts the largest catalogue of Turkish series and films, with 93% of its offerings being homegrown productions. Tabii, launched by TRT (the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation) last year, ranks second in Turkish content availability, with Gain quickly catching up. However, Gain leads in original content, with a balanced catalogue featuring 52% original titles. In contrast, Tabii offers only non-original content, while Puhutv’s catalogue includes only 3% original works.
Across the leading platforms, a clear trend emerges in Turkish content offerings. Comedy and Drama are the dominant genres across all three platforms, with Romance also being a key genre, making it into the top three on Puhutv and Tabii, and the top five on Gain.
Outside of Turkish-specific platforms, Netflix and Prime Video are the leading platforms globally for Turkish content. The third spot, however, varies by region: Fios On Demand and D Smart-Go are popular in UCAN and EMEA, while Claro TV+ and Watcha dominate in LATAM and APAC. Netflix also leads in original Turkish content, with 30 movies and 24 series available.
When it comes to the most popular Turkish series, Netflix claims five of the top six spots for the most streamed and popular titles. Max also ranks among the top three, thanks to the success of the acquired series Woman (2017). Drama is the dominant genre among all six top-performing titles, highlighting the global audience’s strong preference for Turkish dramas. Among these, Another Self (2022) holds the top spot as the most popular series. This Turkish drama follows three close friends whose lives are forever changed when one of them is diagnosed with cancer. The series explores themes of friendship, love, healing and self-discovery, and continues to engage Netflix viewers as production moves forward.
As Turkish productions continue to win over audiences worldwide, their influence is transcending borders and cultures. With growing demand and continued expansion, the future looks bright for Turkish storytelling on the international stage.
