The book provides guidance to new adopters, as well as offering advice for countries which have already started the process, and those who are nearing permanent service status.
WorldDAB has unveiled a fully revised second edition of its ebook, Establishing DAB+ Digital Broadcast Radio, to coincide with World Radio Day on February 13, 2026. The updated publication provides a comprehensive guide to the regulatory, technical and commercial frameworks required to successfully launch and sustain a DAB+ digital radio service.
Released three years after the first edition, the new version expands its scope with fresh expert insights, including guidance on Automatic Safety Alert (ASA) and hybrid radio features, updated regulatory and licensing approaches and recommendations for cost-efficient transmission site design. It also includes updated country case studies, progress on digital adoption, and developments in analogue switch-off strategies.
The ebook is designed to support countries at every stage of the DAB+ journey — from those exploring initial implementation to markets already progressing toward full-scale, permanent services. It outlines the entire establishment process, beginning with early-stage interest and technical trials, moving through operational planning, content development and marketing strategies, and concluding with analogue switch-off.
Bernie O’Neill, Project Director at WorldDAB, said: “UNESCO has designated World Radio Day as an official day to thank broadcasters for the news they deliver, the voices they amplify and the stories they share. WorldDAB is committed to supporting radio’s vital work in these areas. Our updated ebook aims to help broadcasters adopt DAB+ and ensure the medium can thrive in today’s digital world.”
O’Neill added: “The updated ebook offers the latest expert advice on how to establish DAB+, and I’d like to thank Dr Les Sabel and the many others who have contributed. Alongside our forthcoming public policy toolbox and automotive research, we are well placed to support the ongoing establishment of DAB+.”
The ebook is available for free download on the WorldDAB website, alongside a range of additional factsheets and expert resources covering all aspects of DAB+ deployment.
