Rohde and Schwarz announced the launch of the R&S THU9, its latest transmitter at a pre-IBC conference.
The R&S THU9 transmitter from Rohde and Schwarz provides energy efficiency for solid-state TV transmitters. Efficiencies of upto 28% for COFDM standards and up to 30 % for ATSC standards including the cooling system reduce energy costs, according to the company. The transmitter can handle all common and digital analogue TV standards.
Attenuation was reduced throughout the RF chain and the amplifier integrates advanced efficient power transistors in 50V LDMOS technology. Specially developed power supplies are also key to the design. They allow the transmitter conrol unit to optimise the transistor supply voltage.
Another feature is the liquid cooling system. The pumps operate in active standby, increasing transmitter availability. The pump speed is adapted to the coolant flow, saving energy and extending transmitter life.
The new transmitter provides 15kW output power for COFDM is a single rack. The maximum output power per rack is 18.5 kW for ATSC and ATSC Mobile DTV, and 30 kW for analogue TV.
Depending on the configuration, as many as four single transmitters can be accommodated in one rack. The MultiTX concept makes optimal use of floor space and cuts down on infrastructure costs. Even when configured as a single transmitter, the R&S THU9 requires less space than competitive products. In such an all-in-one configuration, the pump unit and the bandpass filter are integrated in the rack.
