As part of a formal review of DISCOP’s strategic plan to improve its content trade and co-production market in MENA, the co-organisers – Basic Lead and Arab Broadcast Content (ABC), are moving the dates of their annual market.
The next edition of DISCOP MENA will still be staged from 15 to 17 December in 2019. Originally it was slated between 25 and 27 February in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
This strategic decision was taken based on the results of a survey underscoring the fact that, with the Ramadan month moving every year and the ever-growing importance of Ramadan programming in the Middle East and Northern Africa, DISCOP MENA’s February dates were no longer optimal.
Commenting on the shift in timelines, Patrick Zuchowicki, CEO of DISCOP Markets said: Ten years ago, we chose to hold DISCOP MENA at the end of February at a time when Ramadan took place in the fall. By moving dates, and for the next ten years, we want to give the regions broadcasters, premium cable channels, mobile operators and streaming platforms more time to pick and choose Ramadan content with widespread appeal in the Arabic world.
This survey was conducted in the last three weeks and took into consideration a random sample of responses, evenly representing all sectors of MENA’s multiscreen content development, production and distribution industries. By moving dates, co-organisers expect to strengthen DISCOP MENAs relevance as a ‘future proof’ marketplace facilitating sustainable content development, production and distribution business with and across the Middle East and Northern Africa – two of the world’s fastest growing entertainment and media marketplaces.
