The 81st Venice International Film Festival will be held from August 28 to September 7, 2024.
The documentary feature Sudan, Remember Us, directed by French journalist-turned-filmmaker Hind Meddeb, will make its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival.
The film is set to screen as a Special Event in the Giornate degli Autori section, an independent sidebar running alongside the main festival, according to a report by Screen Daily.
Sudan, Remember Us chronicles the lives of five young Sudanese revolutionaries—Shajane, Maha, Muzamil, Rufaida and Khattab—who are politically active and artistically creative. The film serves as a collective portrait of a generation fighting for freedom in Khartoum, using their words, poems and chants to challenge a corrupt military regime responsible for atrocities in Darfur, Kordofan and Blue Nile. The documentary captures their journey from the 57-day sit-in at the Army headquarters in Khartoum, through the June 3, 2019, massacre and the military coup of October 2021, to the onset of war that forced them into exile.
Produced by Abel Nahmias of Echo Films (France), Michel Zana and Alice Ormières of Blue Train Films (France), and Tao Guiga of My Way (Tunisia), this France-Tunisia co-production brings a story of resilience and hope to the global stage.
