In the fifth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, Bakri will also give a masterclass at CineGouna Bridge.
El Gouna Film Festival has confirmed that this year’s Career Achievement Award will recognise Palestinian actor and director Mohammad Bakri, celebrating his achievements and contributions to the film industry.
Bakri has pursued acting during a period in which compelling roles for Arabs have been extremely scarce. Over the years, Bakri has worked to find opportunities to pour himself onto the screen and has become one of Palestine’s most visible cinematic figures.
Bakri has worked on over 40 films including Beyond The Walls (1984) and Haïfa (1996). He won the Golden Leopard Award for Best Actor at the 2004 Locarno International Film Festival for his performance in Saverio Costanza’s Private. His notable acting credits in international cinema include The Olive Harvest (2003) by Hannah Elias, Beyond the Walls (1984) and Beyond the Walls II (1992) by Iri Barabash, Haifa (1996) by Rashid Masaharawi, and Hanna.K (1983) by Constantin Costa-Gavras. He has directed two documentaries, 1948 (1998) and Jenin, Jenin (2002).
Bakri will also be giving a masterclass at #CineGouna Bridge.
CineGouna Bridge is a meeting point and a forum for dialogue between different cinematic voices, where Arab filmmakers and their international counterparts engage in and share their perspectives on a wide range of subjects related to the social and business aspects of cinema.
