The Saudi Film Commission is taking part in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which will run until September 14, drawing acclaimed filmmakers, critics, and audiences from across the globe. The participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing ambition to establish itself as a significant player in the international film industry while highlighting the Kingdom’s creative talent and cinematic potential.
As part of its presence, the commission has set up a dedicated pavilion spotlighting the latest achievements of the Saudi film sector, as well as major projects and new initiatives shaping its future. The official Saudi delegation includes representatives from the Saudi Film Commission alongside Saudi filmmakers, ensuring the Kingdom is well represented across TIFF’s programmes and activities.
Among the highlights of this year’s participation is the world premiere of Unidentified, a crime thriller supported by the commission’s Daw programme, which funds local filmmakers. The film delves into historical social issues through a modern Saudi lens, marking a major milestone for Saudi cinema by being featured in TIFF’s world premiere lineup.
The commission’s involvement also seeks to promote Saudi Arabia as an attractive destination for international productions, encourage co-productions and build partnerships with global industry leaders. At the same time, it reflects the Kingdom’s broader commitment to supporting local talent and accelerating the growth of its film ecosystem.
This initiative forms part of the Saudi Film Commission’s wider strategy to enhance Saudi Arabia’s presence at international festivals and position the country as a hub for film production, in line with the cultural and economic goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
