The Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) today announced a partnership with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that will involve a delegation from the Academy attending the 10th Edition of DIFF (6th 14th December 2013) to deliver a programme of events appealing to festivalgoers, filmmakers and industry professionals.
The customized programme presented at DIFF 2013 will put the spotlight on various segments of the film industry and offer a unique opportunity for those attending to take advantage of the Academy teams vast wealth of experience. Highlights will include a panel discussion with members of Academy titled Beyond the Oscars
an open session that will provide an overview of the full scope of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and master classes for filmmakers.
The delegation attending includes Sid Ganis, producer and former president of the Academy; Vicangelo Bulluck, Academy Managing Director of Outreach and Strategic Initiatives; Ellen Harrington, Academy Museum, Director of Exhibitions and Collections; and Academy members, directors Ava DuVernay and Shekhar Kapur.
DuVernay and Kapur will present An Academy Conversation on Directing, where they will discuss their personal experiences and insights on the impact that changing movie-goer demographics and new technologies have on the filmmaking process.
With the Academy’s visit to DIFF, a hub for filmmakers from around the world, the Academy continues its international outreach–artist to artist–with members offering their knowledge and experiences to filmmakers all over the world, said Ganis.
The Academy is responsible for the world-renowned Oscars ceremony and has recognised excellence in film-making achievement for more than eight decades. In addition, the Academy supports a variety of such global initiatives as outreach to filmmaking communities by sharing the expertise of its professional filmmaker members, as well as fostering an appreciation of each cultures unique stories.

Working with AMPAS will inspire the filmmakers that attend DIFF from around the world and encourage invaluable educational and cultural opportunities.
Last year more than 1,600 industry delegates from 88 countries, 1,300 media delegates and hundreds of filmmakers from Asia, Africa and the Arab world attended the Dubai International Film Festival.
