Dubai-based distributor of cinematography equipment, Amaranthine Trading hosted a workshop in Dubai to introduce Arris documentary style camera, Amira. Hans Sazinger, Head of Sales, Asia for Arri demonstrated the camera and introduced its various features to the attendees, who comprised cameramen, DoPs, focus pullers, production managers and filmmakers.
Amira is designed for single user handling with in-built colour grading and wi-fi connection. It can withstand high temperatures as well as sub-zero temperatures without affecting its performance. AMIRA records Rec 709 or Log C images using ProRes LT, 422, 422HQ or 444 codecs. It features in-camera grading with preloaded looks based on 3D LUTs, as well as 200 fps slow motion.
The documentary style camera was introduced during IBC 2013 and is now ready for shipping. The company started receiving the first orders for the camera beginning January 31, 2013.

Amira is ideally suited to filming documentaries said Shahram Aderangui, Technical Manager at Amaranthine Trading, he explained: This is the first-of-its-kind workshop in the world where we are introducing the camera directly to its potential users. Hans travels to India after conducting two sessions here. We have a morning and an afternoon session to cater to larger group of professionals. The interactive sessions saw excellent participation from the audiences.
Commenting on the features of the new camera. Aderangui added: Arri Amira records in 2K and has the same sensor as Arri Alexa. It is ready to shoot straight out of the camera bag, which makes it good for anyone who is shooting singlehandedly.
Amaranthine has already received the first order for the camera from the region.
Aderangui introduced BroadcastPro ME to the first buyers of the camera, who were present at the workshop. Patricia Malzenski and Babak Amini of Eclipse Production have already placed an order for Alexa Amira.
Commenting on their decision to purchase the camera, Malzenski said: We were impressed with the features of this camera that make it very user friendly. It is great to use as a handheld camera and will come in handy for our various production requirements. We are looking forward to receiving the delivery in April.
