Dubai-based boutique creative production company recently invested in a full HD fly-away OB (outside broadcast) kit aimed at servicing the local conference and events market.
It’s a natural extension of our current business, said Ian Carless, Owner & Executive Producer of Talkabout Media.
With more than 20 years experience working in live television with broadcasters such as MTV, ESPN, Star TV, were pretty comfortable in any live broadcast environment and its this experience we bring to the table with our coverage of events, conferences and seminars.
The multi-camera production OB kit features key components from BlackMagic.
We chose BlackMagic because they ticked all the boxes. We wanted a broadcast quality solution that was also easily scalable for future expansion. BlackMagic gives us that and more, said Carless.
“At the heart of the system is the ATEM 1/ME Production Studio 4K which offers 10 frame synchronised camera inputs, three auxiliary outputs, analogue, H-Fi RCA, SDI embedded audio inputs plus a comprehensive up stream keying component and graphics capability. The system outputs include programme and down converted programme outputs plus auxiliary outputs allowing clean feeds, perfect for connecting to giant outdoor LED screens, projectors, and monitors.
Having a television broadcast quality solution is extremely important for us. Nearly all events require an output to large LED screens, so being able to offer a full HD feed is a must, said Carless.
To the accommodate recording of live feeds for post-production, the company went with the BlackMagic HyperDeck Studio. This state of the art disk recorder offers a variety of broadcast standard recording formats including uncompressed 10-bit 4:2:2, ProRes 422 (HQ, LT) etc.
Were extremely happy with the kit. Weve managed to combine unbeatable broadcast quality without breaking the bank! And Bala, Lawrence, Albert and the team at MediaCast were super helpful as well as delivering everything when we needed, said Carless.
Being able to offer broadcast quality pictures is paramount to Carless and his team. To that end the company relies on industry stalwarts for cameras including Sony PDW700, PMW400 and XDCam and will shortly invest in several BlackMagic Studio cameras. Cabling options include both SDI and fibre, allowing them to service even the biggest of venues. The kit also incorporates a customised comms system allowing talkback from director to the cameramen.
The kit has already been in action at The Arab Youth Survey for Asdaa Burson-Marsteller at the Adress Hotel, Downtown and more recently for an online show and tell session at the recently opened Café Rider, a specialist custom motorcycle maker in Al Quoz.
We know how important events are to both event organizers and their clients. Weve housed all our kit in professional flight cases, ensuring that not only do we deliver broadcast quality pictures but our on-site team maintains a professional image also. We’ve already delivered our first few events, which went down a storm. Were looking forward to servicing many more just like them, added Carless.
