After a long period in limbo, BroadcastPro Middle East has learnt that a decision was officially taken yesterday to dissolve Baynounah in Abu Dhabi.
Baynounah presently employs close to 390 people. Industry rumours state that a third of those, of which 70% are nationals will be absorbed into Abu Dhabi Media, previously known as Abu Dhabi Media Company, with fresh contracts.
Baynounah’s studios and production facilities are likely to be taken over by intaj, twofour54’s technical facility. It is also believed that at least half of the 120-strong operations and technical staff at Baynounah will be absorbed into intaj.
As BroadcastPro ME previously stated, more changes within Abu Dhabi’s media scene are expected in the coming months. Ed Borgerding stepped down as CEO of Abu Dhabi Media last month. It is strongly believed that there will be significant management changes at Abu Dhabi Media once a new CEO has been appointed.
The UAE government has always expressed its desire to see more nationals take on management roles and lead state-backed organisations. These changes are thought to be a reflection of the country’s Emiratisation strategy.
