ABS Broadcast and Nigerian entertainment company iROKO have launched a new Afrobeats music channel on the Les Bouquets Canal+ platform in French-speaking Africa. The channel was launched last week.
The Afrobeats music channel features the latest music videos and throwback tracks from popular Nigerian music artists and is broadcasting to French-speaking Africa. This is iROKOs fifth television channel in the global television market.
ABS Broadcast is providing broadcast playout services for the music channel, from its playout centre in London. In addition to this, iROKO Music is also using ABS Broadcasts in-house broadcast management system, ABSolute. The cloud-based scheduling system gives the channel the ability to schedule all elements of the channel at ease, including EPGS, playlists, music reporting and on-screen graphics.
Jason Njoku, CEO of iROKO commented: Afrobeats is the sound of Africa. As we have built out our TV audience across the continent, our team noticed that there were plenty of channels showing a Nigerian music hour, but nowhere, was there a dedicated channel showing Afrobeats 24/7. We live in an on-demand economy consumers dont want to wait for that hour, they want it now.
iROKO announced a content partnership with Canal+ International in January 2016, and the two global entertainment brands are working together to open up the Francophone market to more premium music and TV entertainment, both online and on TV.
François Deplanck, SVP Channels & Content of Canal+ International, added: We are glad to launch iROKO Music on Les Bouquets Canal+. We reinforce our musical channels offer with a channel with a unique positioning and answer our subscribers expectations. Indeed, this new channel will please our subscribers for whom music is really important, especially Nigerian Afrobeats.
