A new film club, Aflam, that aims to show the best of Arabic independent cinema is being launched in Abu Dhabi on January 25, 2012. The club will provide a platform for all film industry members and fans to network and view regional films. Aflam is to be launched with a red carpet event at VOX Cinemas in Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi, with a screening of the Egyptian film “Tahrir 2011”, a combined story of three directors and their perspectives on the Egyptian revolution.
The event will begin with an hour of networking at 7pm, followed by the screening of the film. Aflam is also flying the films producer, Mohammed Hefzy in from Egypt, who will engage in a question and answer session, moderated by Nayla Al Khaja.
Aflam was launched based on the success of a film club that Nayla Al Khaja and D-SEVEN Motion Pictures founded in Dubai in November 2007.
“Aflam is about creating an opportunity to showcase the best of Arab filmmaking which for me, as filmmaker, is a dream come true. I want to create a space where the Abu Dhabi community and regional film directors can have a club that celebrates their talent,” said Nayla Al Khaja.
While The Scene Club in Dubai showcases films from around the world, “Aflam” aims to celebrate the best of Arab independent cinema to a multi-cultural audience. Subtitled in English, all “Aflam” films will have an international appeal, most having been screened at major film festivals around the globe.
In addition to the screenings, “Aflam” will arrange to have a key representative from the film, either the director, producer and / or cast present for a question and answer session following the screening.
