Snap has announced its participation at the Web Summit Qatar 2024. It is inviting guests to attend the region’s first-ever Web Summit in Qatar from February 26 to 29 to explore a diverse array of disruptive AR experiences that showcase how technology is revolutionising our perception of the world. With over 85% of daily Snapchat users in the MENA region actively engaging with Augmented Reality (AR) Lenses, the significance of AR in fostering community connections is unparalleled in modern communication.
Globally, more than 350,000 AR creators and developers have crafted nearly 3.5m AR Lenses, amassing over 3tn views. For the first time in the region, Snap Inc. will exhibit the creations of both local and global AR Creators during the Web Summit. The “Creators Lenscape” will feature Vanity Mirrors, offering visitors the chance to experience full-face tracking, garment segmentation, face distortion, and more. Additionally, the Snapcodes x World lenses technology will enable guests to explore ground segmentation, sound recognition, and immersive 3D objects, demonstrating the versatility of Snap’s Lens Studio in fueling creativity and businesses.
The second interactive touchpoint will spotlight innovative local and global partners utilising AR technology across diverse industries. AR overlays a digital dimension onto our physical surroundings, and Snap Inc., as pioneers in this field, has collaborated with partners across the region to empower businesses and drive ROI through AR’s capabilities.
Hussein Freijeh, Vice President of Snap in MENA, said: “It is very exciting to see a major tech event such as Web Summit Qatar debut in the region for the first time. This is a pivotal milestone in the burgeoning technology landscape of the GCC and a testament to the remarkable growth the technology ecosystem has been witnessing. At the heart of this dynamic landscape is Snapchat, deeply rooted into the daily lives of GCC locals’. Snapchat holds a special place in the region by being the platform of choice for the GCC community to stay connected with their family and friends.
“With our highly engaged audiences and our disruptive augmented reality technology, we believe we have a responsibility to support our community, creators and partners to stay ahead of the game with the ongoing digital transformation taking place in the region.”
Attendees can join Ronan Harris, President of EMEA Snap Inc. in an exclusive fireside chat titled ‘Snapchat: Where Relationships Have Real Influence’ as he discusses the growing role of Snapchat in the lives of the GCC populations and how the company’s innovative augmented reality technology is pushing the boundaries of communications to drive real results for brands and creators.
At Web Summit Qatar, attendees will witness brands leveraging AR to offer Snapchatters virtual fitting rooms for trying on the latest couture designs, experiencing virtual makeup try-ons, or training alongside their favourite athletes. Whether through Snapchat’s ray tracing technology, AR try-ons, gaming, or immersive Lenses, AR enables brands to forge deeper connections with customers.
As Snap continues to showcase the future of Generative AI, the third interactive element of its presence at Web Summit Qatar features ‘The Future of Technology’ photobooth. Visitors can morph their faces into Anime characters while exploring visual effects that blend reality and digital artistry, offering a glimpse into the boundless possibilities of AR in the years ahead.
With Snapchat deeply ingrained in the daily lives of GCC locals, its participation at the inaugural Web Summit Qatar aims to offer a unique convergence of global and local perspectives, delving into Snap’s leadership in AR and its profound resonance within the region’s digital transformation agenda.
