The Hispasat 30W-6 (H30W-6) satellite has reached the SpaceX launch site in Cape Canaveral (Florida).
The fleet?s new satellite has been transferred from the installations of Space System Loral (SSL) in Palo Alto (California), where it was manufactured, to the space centre on-board a truck in a container adapted to transport heavy components and whose characteristics guarantee the safety of the satellite.
The satellite has been brought to Cape Canaveral after passing all the functional and environmental tests conducted during the construction process. The last tests will be conducted at the launch site to confirm that the satellite functions properly after being transferred. After that the satellite will be placed in the Falcon 9 launch vehicle to be launched later, currently set for February.
The Hispasat 30W-6 has an estimated useful life of 15 years and has been constructed on SSL?s 1300 satellite platform, will replace the Hispasat 30W-4 satellite. The satellite will be located at 30º West and will provide television, broadband, corporate networks and other telecommunication solutions.
The new satellite will also provide additional capacity in the Ku band for the American continent.
Furthermore, the Hispasat 30W-6 will improve the company?s trans-Atlantic capacities in its European American and American-European connections and, for the first time, it will add capacity in the C band in America from the 30º West position. Moreover, the satellite will expand the capacity on the Ka band in Europe and North Africa so that HISPASAT can continue to enhance its broadband services in the region.
