Customers will still be allowed to watch content that has previously been downloaded on a second device.
MultiChoice has announced that it will limit the number of devices able to view content on its DStv service at anyone time from March 22.
In a notice to customers, the African operator described password sharing and piracy as “challenges for streaming providers globally”.
In a statement, DStv said: “As part of our ongoing efforts to counteract password sharing and piracy, while continuing to bring you the best viewing experience, we will be introducing measures to limit concurrent streaming. From 22 March 2022, customers will be limited to streaming DStv on one device at a time. They will still be able to watch previously downloaded content on a second device. The change will be made to all DStv subscriptions across Africa, however, only customers making use of more than one concurrent stream will be directly affected by the change.”
DStv added that there will be no change to pricing.
In all, MultiChoice subscribers will be able to register up to four devices that can be used to watch content at various times.
