MAD Solutions has released the official trailer for Australian film The Furnace on social media platforms ahead of the film’s Arab world premiere at the fourth edition of El Gouna Film Festival.
Helmed by director Rodrick MacKay who is also the writer of the film, The Furnace stars Ahmed Malek along with Australian actors David Wenham and Jay Ryan.
The trailer features Ahmed Malek as he dons the costume of a Cameleer called Hanif, speaking in English and performing Islamic prayers. The video manifests the growing coalition between Hanif and Mal, the bushman on the run with stolen Crown gold, along with the police pursuit of the duo in the desert.
The Furnace landed world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival, where it was praised by the international press and media outlets.
To escape a harsh existence and return home, the film follows a young Afghan cameleer who partners with a mysterious bushman on the run with two 400oz Crown-marked gold bars. Together the unlikely pair must outwit a police sergeant and his troopers in a race to reach a secret furnace – the one place where they can safely reset the bars to remove the mark of the Crown.
The Furnace received production support from several institutes, including Screen Australia, in association with Screenwest, Lotterywest and the Western Australian Regional Film Fund. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution and marketing across the Arab world.
